FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Fixity?

“Fixity” is repair, reuse, repurposing, restoration, and recycling service for household items whose mission is to keep unnecessary waste from filling up landfills.

How did your company get its name?

“Fixity” is the quality or state of being fixed or stable. It also sounds good rolling off the tongue!

What does Fixity do?

Fixity repairs, repurposes, and restores household items for clients who many not have the time, energy, or resources to preform the repairs themselves. Our services include on site repair as well as pickup and delivery when necessary.  In addition to fixing your items we also offer the option for you to learn along side us as we do repairs, thereby empowering each client with the knowledge, going forward, to preform repairs themselves.  If an item is too far beyond repair then Fixity can repurpose and resell or donate any items that the client does not want to keep.

Why use Fixity?

Our services help you to save time, save money, preserve items, and reduce your footprint – at home and environmentally.

Fixity fills the gap between existing service providers and those things people usually try to do themselves. We use out of the box thinking and creativity to offer solutions.  Whether you need a family heirloom restored or zipper repair we will help you cross it off your “to-do” list!

What sorts of projects can Fixity help me with?

Lamps, jewelry, pants, purses, pictures, furniture! We can do just about anything! Let us take on the stash of things waiting to be fixed so that you can focus your energies elsewhere!

How does Fixity determine pricing?

Fixity prepares a quote for each job using a benchmark of $25/hour for labor. Please view our Pricing section here for more details.

How can I pay for the services?

Fixity accepts cash, checks, or credit.

Where is Fixity located and what area(s) will Fixity service?

Fixity headquarters are located in St. Paul, MN.  At this time Fixity services the greater Twin Cities metro area.

Do you pick up items?

Absolutely! Fixity provides pick up and delivery service for projects of sufficient size or number.  Please contact Fixity to discuss arrangements or other alternatives.

What if I want to learn to fix things myself?

Excellent! Part of the Fixity mission is to share the “art of fixing” with clients and the community! If a client is interested in knowing “how to” we are more than happy to share with them techniques and solutions!

What impact does Fixity have on the environment and consumer waste?

On average each Minnesotan produces more than 2,000 pounds of waste each year.  It is estimated that in the next 10 - 20 years, if we continue our current waste production trends, we may exhaust our available landfill space.  It is our goal to help clients fix things in order to increase product lifespan and keep more items out of landfills.

What is the Fixity Movement?

The Fixity Movement is our term for collaborative efforts in the community that move toward the reduction of excess waste (and by default the unnecessary expenses of repurchasing).  In essence, it is also our desire to motivate others to embrace fixing and repurposing their items.

How can I become a part of the Fixity Movement?

Simple!  You can become a part of the movement by actively engaging in community fixing initiatives or practices that increase the lifespan and value of your items!  On a more direct level, you can sign up to help share your fixing talents with us via our database.  We use this database to match fixer to client within our local neighborhoods.

Finally, you can keep up to date on our happenings by liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter.

What can the Fixity Movement do for me?

Depending on your needs and interests, partaking in the Fixity Movement will:

  1. Bring you a sense of accomplishment from fixing items, or from having someone fix them, and knowing that those items are not being wasted
  2. Allow you to network and be an active participant in bringing neighborhoods together to increase the depth of community relations and business bartering
  3. Give you a sense of pride as you watch others around you become more accountable and efficient with their accumulative items
